A teenage girl is in a life-threatening condition at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after being involved in an accident on a railway line. The incident occurred near Shildon in County Durham.
British Transport Police were alerted to reports of a casualty on the tracks around 08:00 BST yesterday. Paramedics and the Great North Air Ambulance arrived on scene shortly after and transported the teenager to the hospital.
Greenfield Academy in Newton Aycliffe confirmed that one of its pupils was the individual involved. The executive head teacher stated the school is liaising with emergency services and offering support to students and staff. The family of the child has been informed.
