The Great North Air Ambulance Service was dispatched, arriving at the scene shortly after 5:00 PM. Paramedics and a doctor on board worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to provide immediate medical care.
The teenager was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for specialist treatment. He is reported to be in a stable condition as of Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
Durham Constabulary confirmed that the incident is not being treated as criminal, indicating it was a tragic accident. County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service did not attend the scene.
