An unusual event unfolded in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, when a Tata Tiago electric car was captured on CCTV reversing without a driver. The vehicle moved autonomously, causing alarm and narrowly avoiding an accident.
The car's owner, Saurabh Rathore, stated that the incident happened while his nephew was cleaning the car, and the key was not in the ignition. He observed the car move forward briefly before reversing independently. This startling behavior, witnessed by bystanders, occurred without anyone at the controls.
While CCTV footage from Jail Road clearly shows the Tata Tiago EV moving and reversing on its own, the definitive cause has not been established. Rathore suspects a technical malfunction and intends to lodge a complaint with the car manufacturer, possibly pursuing legal action. As of October 19, 2026, the circumstances behind the car's self-movement remain under investigation, with no official confirmation of a technical defect.
Fortunately, this peculiar incident concluded without any injuries. The viral footage has brought attention to the event, but the underlying reasons for the car's unprompted motion are still unknown.
