This intense rainfall has led to significant flooding, prompting local governments to close schools and offices in major cities like Kaohsiung and Tainan, as well as in Pingtung, Chiayi, Taitung, and Hualien counties. The Kaohsiung government anticipates cumulative rainfall to surpass 1.3 meters within a five-day period, a substantial portion of its annual average.
Adding to the challenging weather, Typhoon Saudel is on a path towards Taiwan, with predictions indicating it will move near the island's northern areas by Friday. The typhoon is currently heading towards Japan's Okinawa region. Meanwhile, Saudel is also expected to enter the Philippines on Monday and may intensify into a super typhoon before leaving the Philippine Sea by Tuesday.
Further compounding weather concerns, China's southwestern Guangxi region is dealing with severe flooding caused by Typhoon Narra. This situation has necessitated the relocation of tens of thousands of residents, with forecasters warning of continued rainfall in the coming days.
