Two teenage boys, Adrian Lai, 15, and William Drake, 16, lost their lives in a devastating motorcycle crash with a commuter bus in Bossley Park, Sydney's west. The collision occurred on the Liverpool Parramatta Transitway around 7:15 PM on a Monday evening. Emergency services arrived to find the trail bike wedged beneath the bus. Both boys were pronounced dead at the scene.
Emotional tributes have poured in from friends on social media, remembering Adrian and William as fun-loving boys and respected members of the bike community. Footage circulating online depicted the motorcycle trapped under the bus. A memorial ride is being organized for April 3 at Bankstown Airport. The bus driver was taken for mandatory testing but was uninjured, as were any passengers.
This tragedy highlights concerns about illegal and modified e-bikes. NSW Police recently conducted an operation targeting such vehicles, issuing fines and cautions. New legislation is being introduced to Parliament that will empower police to seize and crush illegally modified e-bikes, aiming to curb dangerous anti-social behavior. These laws will include roadside dyno units to test speed limits.
