An intense fire erupted in the early hours of Friday at The Spit marina in Mosman, Sydney, destroying three luxury yachts and causing them to sink into the harbour.
Emergency crews were alerted shortly after 3:30 AM and battled the flames, which spread rapidly between moored vessels. Four individuals were evacuated from one of the affected boats, and a woman was treated for smoke inhalation. Fire and Rescue NSW confirmed the loss of three large yachts.
Authorities swiftly deployed containment booms and established an exclusion zone to manage fuel and oil contamination in Middle Harbour, mitigating potential environmental harm. Investigations into the cause of the fire, which is not being treated as suspicious, are underway.
