An 18-year-old trainee lifeguard has been found dead after disappearing while swimming at a Sunshine Coast beach earlier this week. The young man was last seen entering the water at Buddina Beach on Wednesday afternoon, shortly before a scheduled lifesaving training session. His friends reported him missing when he did not return to shore.
An extensive search and rescue operation was immediately launched, involving numerous volunteers, jet skis, dinghies, a rescue helicopter, and coastguard surveillance. The search area extended from Point Cartwright to south of Kawana, though rough water conditions caused some delays for the recovery teams. Police confirmed his body was spotted and removed from the water on Friday evening. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
