Swallowfield Bridge Reopens After Lorry Smash
27 Feb
Summary
- Bridge reopened after being closed for over two weeks.
- Lorry driver crashed through one side of the bridge.
- Temporary concrete barriers now secure the bridge.

A damaged bridge in Swallowfield, located on Church Road, has officially reopened to vehicular traffic. The structure had been closed for just over a fortnight following an incident on February 11, when a lorry driver drove through and damaged one side of the brick bridge. Access for pedestrians and cyclists was promptly reinstated following the incident. However, Wokingham council's structural assessment of the bridge was delayed due to high water levels in the River Blackwater. To ensure safety, concrete blocks have been placed along the compromised side of the bridge, creating a temporary barrier between the roadway and the river. This measure has allowed for the resumption of vehicle passage.
