On November 6th, 2025, a powerful Super Typhoon Fung-wong, locally called 'Uwan', slammed into the Philippines, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The typhoon, which made landfall on Sunday night, has claimed at least 18 lives and displaced more than 1.4 million people from their homes.
The Philippines' weather service, PAGASA, reported that Fung-wong sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 135 km/h. The typhoon has caused widespread flooding, power outages, and landslides across the country's northern regions. Authorities have warned that the expected rainfall may be even higher in mountainous areas on Tuesday.
This latest disaster comes just a week after the Philippines was hit by Typhoon Kalmaegi, which killed more than 200 people. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had already declared a state of emergency due to the extensive damage caused by Kalmaegi, and he is now bracing for the impact of Fung-wong.

As Fung-wong moves over the South China Sea, it is expected to make landfall in Taiwan on Thursday. The Philippines' government has taken swift action, closing schools and most government offices on Monday and Tuesday, and cancelling over 325 domestic and 61 international flights. Thousands of commuters and cargo workers have also been stranded in ports after the coast guard prohibited ships from venturing into the rough seas.
