24 Oct
Summary
- Forty-four students were stranded overnight in their bus due to heavy rains.
- Teachers protected students from the perilous situation to avoid panic.
- Authorities ensured the safe relocation of all stranded students.
During heavy rainfall on the Ooty-Mettupalayam route, forty-four students from St Antony's HSS, Pala, became stranded in their bus. Teachers accompanying the group worked to shield the young travelers from the unfolding danger of mudslides and fallen trees, allowing the students to pass the time unaware of the gravity of their situation.
Another group of 105 class XII students from St Thomas HSS, also on an excursion, faced similar challenges and spent the night in their bus. While mudslides affected other vehicles, both school buses remained undamaged. Authorities were alerted, and by Saturday morning, the students were safely moved to Sachidanandan Jyothi Niketan School.
Due to blocked roads, students had to walk some distance to board arranged vehicles. The St Antony's group was provided a bus back to Pala, while the St Thomas HSS students continued their journey home in a bus arranged by a local minister. All students were safely returned home.
