An inquest has been opened into the tragic death of Eleanor Hague, a 16-year-old student at Tadcaster Grammar School, who lost her life in a road traffic collision. The incident occurred on December 1st when the minibus she was traveling in collided with a car on Toulston Lane, close to her school.
Eleanor, affectionately known as Ellie and residing in Sherburn in Elmet, was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. The minibus was carrying nine passengers aged between 16 and 18, traveling from Tadcaster Grammar School and Sherburn High School. Another teenage girl sustained serious injuries but has since recovered and been released from hospital.
The driver of the car, a 40-year-old woman from Leeds, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. She has since been released on bail pending further investigation. The senior coroner has opened and adjourned the inquest, with a full hearing to be scheduled later.
