Storm Ingrid Wrecks Historic Pier, Disrupts Rail
24 Jan
Summary
- Storm Ingrid caused significant damage to Teignmouth Grand Pier.
- Heavy rain and winds prompted flood warnings along Devon and Cornwall coasts.
- Train services between Exeter and Plymouth remain suspended due to debris.

Storm Ingrid unleashed its fury on Devon and Cornwall, resulting in significant damage to a historic pier. The Teignmouth Grand Pier sustained damage as the town endured 'wild' waves and strong winds overnight into Saturday.
Heavy rainfall has triggered a yellow weather warning, with flood alerts issued for the south Devon and south Cornwall coastlines. The storm's impact has extended to transportation, causing the closure of the railway line between Exeter St Davids and Plymouth.
This closure is due to a substantial amount of debris on the tracks at Dawlish, caused by waves breaching the sea wall. Great Western Railway has stated the line will remain shut until at least 14:00 GMT.
