A tragic incident unfolded at the state-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata when a falling tree branch claimed the life of a visitor. Rahida Bibi, who had journeyed from Nalhati in Birbhum to attend to a sick relative, was fatally struck by the branch outside the urology department. This occurred on Monday amidst intermittent rain and strong winds affecting the city.
Two other individuals, Zillar Rahman (68) and Shish Mohammad Sheikh (76), were injured by the falling branch. Both are currently receiving treatment in the hospital's trauma care unit. Sheikh had been at the hospital since early morning awaiting a surgery date for a kidney ailment when the branch fell on his leg.
Authorities reported that no formal complaint has been lodged regarding the incident. In a separate but related event near the hospital's nephrology department, a man was injured when another tree fell.
