A devastating wildfire in Spain's Almeria province last Thursday evening claimed the lives of 13 people, including the wife and several friends of a British survivor. Malcolm Timbrell, 70, narrowly escaped the inferno that swept through the village of Bédar. He recounted the terrifying moments he became separated from his wife, Annette Kilgore, 69, as flames raced towards their home.
Timbrell described the surreal horror of being the only survivor from his group, stating, "You'd never imagine it could happen." The fire, one of the deadliest in Spanish history, spread with alarming speed, fanned by strong winds. The couple, who had found their property on the television show 'A Place in the Sun,' had lived together for 17 years. Their decision to flee by car with neighbors was made as the wildfire neared their property.
