A missing solo yachtsman was discovered asleep and exhausted by an RNLI lifeboat crew on Saturday evening. The 32ft yacht had departed Southampton earlier that day, intending to travel to Hartlepool. The vessel was found approximately 10 miles offshore, drifting within the Rampion wind farm with its cabin lights illuminated.
Two members of the Shoreham RNLI lifeboat crew boarded the yacht to assess the situation. They found the skipper to be unharmed, though he was suffering from exhaustion. A search helicopter was also alerted to the scene but was subsequently stood down once it was confirmed the yachtsman required no further medical assistance.
