Tragedy strikes during Karma-Dharma festivity: Six children drown

A wave of grief has swept through Bhagalpur district following the drowning of six children. The tragic incident occurred on Monday morning in a water body located in Bishnu Tola, within the Sultanganj municipal council area. The victims, all between 12 and 14 years old, were participating in the Karma-Dharma festivities, a significant cultural celebration.

Local residents reported that the children had gone to bathe in the village water body. While initially in shallow waters, they are believed to have ventured into a deeper section, leading to the drowning. Despite urgent rescue attempts by concerned villagers, all six children were lost.

At the Community Health Centre, medical professionals confirmed the deaths. The deceased have been identified, with five hailing from Bishnu Tola and one from the Sabour block, who was visiting relatives for the festival. The incident has cast a pall over the village as preparations for the celebration were underway.

Authorities, including police and administrative officials, arrived at the scene. The bodies were retrieved and sent for post-mortem examinations, with legal proceedings initiated. Concerns have been raised by some locals regarding the lack of safety measures around the water body.
