- The location is heavily promoted on social media by influencers.

Two sisters, Hajra Zahid, 29, and Haleema Zahid, 25, accidentally drowned while paddling in the Watkin Pools in Snowdonia on June 11, 2025. The popular wild swimming location, frequently promoted on social media, was visited by the Pakistani-born sisters who had recently moved to the UK for their master's degrees.
Evidence presented at an inquest suggested the sisters, who were fully clothed and wearing shoes, did not intend to swim and likely could not. They may have slipped into deeper parts of the pool unintentionally. Their deaths were ruled accidental by the assistant coroner.
Mountain rescue teams highlighted the dangers of wild swimming in such promoted areas and urged public caution. The sisters were remembered fondly by colleagues and university staff for their kindness and energy.
