Siblings Die of Snakebite Ahead of Raksha Bandhan

In a devastating turn of events, two young siblings, Jobanpreet Singh, 8, and Jaspreet Kaur, 6, lost their lives to snakebites in Bassian village. The children were sleeping in the courtyard with their grandmother on Wednesday around 3 am, opting for the outdoors to escape the heat.

Their grandmother, Jinder Kaur, initially dismissed Jobanpreet's complaint of a bite as an insect sting. However, his condition rapidly worsened, prompting the family to discover a snake beneath their cot. By then, Jaspreet also exhibited distress.

Both children were rushed to the civil hospital in Raikot. Jaspreet was pronounced dead upon arrival, and Jobanpreet, in critical condition, was transferred to CMC Hospital, Ludhiana. He passed away approximately 18 hours after his sister. The siblings were cremated together on Thursday, casting a pall of gloom just before Raksha Bandhan.
