Siblings Die Playing Hide-and-Seek in Fridge

Two young siblings, an eight-year-old girl and her five-year-old brother, tragically died after becoming trapped in a fridge-freezer while playing hide-and-seek. The incident occurred in Vista Hermosa, Colombia, when their parents discovered them inside the appliance. The parents had been out for approximately 20 minutes on a shopping trip.

Despite being rushed to a local hospital, medical efforts to revive the children were unsuccessful, and they were pronounced deceased. Their father stated the freezer was unplugged at the time and that the children suffocated after the lid accidentally closed on them.

Family members, including the children's mother and aunt, have shared heartbreaking tributes on social media, expressing immense grief and cherishing memories of the siblings. The children's school and the local mayor's office have also issued statements of condolence, urging heightened parental supervision.

The municipal administration deeply regrets the incident, highlighting that a moment of negligence can lead to irreversible tragedy. They have called for increased protection measures to prevent similar events, emphasizing that protecting children is a societal duty.
