Jonathan King, a 34-year-old data scientist, suffered a near-fatal leg injury during a hit-and-run incident on December 15. While on vacation in Coral Gables, Florida, King was riding his electric scooter when a white Audi SQ7 SUV, driven by Miami investor James Bailey, struck him. King's left leg was pinned and crushed against the vehicle's front tire.
Witnesses, including King's girlfriend, urged Bailey to reverse. According to reports, Bailey fled the scene and later attempted to evade police at his Miami mansion. He was apprehended and charged with leaving the scene of a crash causing bodily injury and resisting an officer without violence. King sustained multiple fractures and faces extensive medical treatment.
King has filed a civil lawsuit against Bailey for negligence and permanent impairment, and also named Bailey's wife, Devon Aoki, under Florida's Dangerous Instrumentality Doctrine due to co-ownership of the vehicle. King's legal team is investigating potential intoxication and plans to seek punitive damages, highlighting the severity of the incident and the driver's actions.
