Seven Towers Scaffolding Limited, based in County Antrim, has been ordered to pay a £20,000 fine following the death of an employee. Samuel Magill, 60, succumbed to injuries sustained on December 18, 2024, when a metal scaffolding board struck him on the head at a construction site on Lisburn Road. The incident occurred as the scaffolding was being dismantled.
The company admitted to failing to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of its employees. An investigation by HSENI revealed that the exclusion zone around the scaffolding was not adequately managed during dismantling, lacking sufficient measures to prevent unauthorized access. The death was ruled entirely preventable by authorities.
During the court proceedings, the defense conveyed the company's sincere regret and condolences to Magill's family. The court heard statements from Magill's fiancée, daughter, and sister, detailing the profound grief and devastation caused by his loss. These accounts underscored Magill's importance as a beloved family member and employee.
