A tornado touched down near Pelly, Saskatchewan, on Sunday evening, according to Environment Canada. The storm caused serious damage to several buildings and downed power lines in the area. Bill Gade, a local emergency coordinator, witnessed the destruction, describing one property where a garage was completely destroyed.
In addition to the Pelly tornado, a second twister was confirmed near Stornoway, Saskatchewan. This occurred shortly after the first, around 6:10 p.m. CST. Both events are being investigated by the Northern Tornadoes Project. The province experienced a weekend of severe weather, including hail and heavy rain.
Looking ahead, Environment Canada forecasts more extreme weather for Saskatchewan this week, with potential for heavy rainfall of 30 to 50 millimetres and possible small hail under individual thunderstorm cells. Weather alerts for heat and air quality are also active in northern areas due to wildfire smoke.
