The U.S. Coast Guard announced it intends to suspend its search for three individuals missing in the San Francisco Bay at sunset on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. The search commenced Tuesday afternoon after a 50-foot cabin cruiser named Volare capsized.
After 23 hours of continuous searching across approximately 950 square nautical miles with multiple vessels and aircraft, Deputy Sector Commander Jarod Toczko stated that no survivors had been located. The vessel had departed from St. Francis Yacht Club for Angel Island, carrying family and friends for a memorial service.
During the incident, one man, identified as Clifford Joseph Boisa, 79, of Sutter County, was confirmed deceased. Three individuals were injured and transported to a hospital, including the boat's pilot, who has since been released. Thirteen passengers were uninjured and returned home. Authorities are investigating the cause of the capsize, with possibilities including passengers being trapped inside the multi-level vessel.
