San Antonio Homes Rocked by Twin Explosions
23 Apr
Summary
- Two homes exploded hours apart on the same San Antonio block.
- Five people, including a child, suffered burn injuries from the blasts.
- The NTSB is investigating the natural gas-fueled explosions.

Two separate homes on the same block in north San Antonio were destroyed by explosions Tuesday night. The first blast occurred around 6 p.m., followed by a second approximately two hours later, two doors down. Both residences had occupants inside during the explosions.
Five individuals, including a child, were transported to local hospitals with burn injuries as a result of the incidents. Early reports indicate a family of three, including a pastor and teacher, were among those injured in the initial explosion and were in stable condition.
The National Transportation Safety Board has announced it will investigate the "natural gas-fueled" explosions. Their inquiry will focus on the sequence of events and why no immediate evacuations were ordered following the first blast, especially as residents of the second home returned to their house before it detonated.
Gas and power services to the immediate area have been disconnected, and residents of adjacent homes have been evacuated. Authorities stated that no one will be permitted to return to their homes until the area is deemed safe. The natural gas provider for the area, CPS Energy, confirmed it is actively investigating the root cause of the explosions.
