Rutgers Friends Tragically Killed by NYC Subway

Navam Kaul and Malaika Chitre, both 24 and recent graduates of Rutgers University, tragically died early Sunday morning. The longtime friends were fatally struck by a Number 4 subway train at the Canal Street station in lower Manhattan.
The incident occurred around 3:15 AM. Police sources indicate that investigators are looking into whether either Kaul or Chitre were under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time. While suicide has not been ruled out, no note has been found.
According to police sources, Kaul may have fallen or gone onto the tracks. Chitre reportedly went down to help him, attempting to pull him back before the train struck them. The reason for them sitting on the tracks prior to the train's arrival remains unclear.
