A significant brush fire erupted in Rumsey Canyon, rapidly expanding to 450 acres by Monday evening. Firefighting efforts were initiated following reports of smoke near Sand Creek Road, close to the Yolo and Colusa county border.
Despite initial resource deployment, the challenging and hard-to-access nature of the terrain complicated containment. Air tankers and helicopters made crucial water and retardant drops to establish containment lines, particularly on the fire's head and flanks. Ground crews were eventually able to access the area and commence direct suppression actions.
The fire exhibited runs to the northeast, east, and southeast, with a notable spot fire of approximately 75 acres across Sand Creek Road. As of Monday evening, containment stood at 10%.
