A panchkarma therapist, who suffered a life-altering 80% functional disability following a road accident on May 11, 2016, has been awarded Rs 43.76 lakh in compensation. The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Thane noted the severe injuries sustained, including the amputation of the victim's right leg above the knee, after a luxury bus collided with his motorcycle in Sindhudurg. The tribunal established the bus driver's negligence based on police records and the charge sheet, dismissing the insurance company's arguments regarding policy violations. Compensation covers medical expenses, loss of income, future earnings, artificial limb costs, and damages for pain and suffering. The insurer must pay the amount with 9% annual interest, and half the sum will be in fixed deposit for three years.
