The Shore Fire, a significant brush fire in Riverside County, expanded rapidly to approximately 1,500 acres by Monday evening, necessitating evacuation orders for residents. The fire was initially reported on Monday afternoon in a sparsely populated region near Lake Shore Drive and San Timoteo Canyon Road, situated in the Badlands area southwest of Calimesa.
Multiple engine and hand crews from various fire departments, including Riverside County Fire Department, Hemet Fire Department, Palm Springs Fire Department, and Cal Fire-San Bernardino County, were dispatched to combat the rapidly growing blaze. This fire is located on the north side of a rugged terrain between Interstate 10 and the 60 Freeway.
Evacuation orders were issued for specific zones, RVC-0231-B and RVC-0231C, with several other evacuation warnings also in effect. Residents seeking detailed information on these orders and warnings were advised to visit fire.ca.gov.
Transportation was affected as Highway 60 westbound, at the junction with Interstate 10, was shut down to facilitate firefighting efforts. Officials indicated that these westbound lanes would remain closed for an extended period, while the eastbound lanes of Highway 60 continued to be open to traffic.
To support those affected, an evacuation center was established at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley, accommodating both people and pets. Furthermore, accommodations for large animals were made available at the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus located in San Jacinto.
