11 Apr
Summary
- Cracks appeared again on Rishikesh's glass footpath bridge.
- The bridge is India's first glass-floor suspension bridge over Ganga.
- Construction began in 2022 at a cost of Rs 69.20 crore.

Concerns over construction quality have resurfaced for Rishikesh's Bajrang Setu, India's inaugural glass-floor suspension bridge spanning the Ganga River. Cracks have developed on the glass footpath panels, leading to movement restrictions on the bridge near Lakshman Jhula.
This is not the first instance of damage; the glass footpath has broken twice before, requiring repairs. The Bajrang Setu, a 132.30-meter long and 5-meter wide structure, has been under construction since 2022 with an estimated cost of Rs 69.20 crore. It features 1.5-meter wide transparent glass footpaths made of 65 mm thick glass.
Despite the bridge awaiting formal inauguration, tourists and locals have reportedly been accessing it for the last two months, a situation attributed to alleged departmental negligence. The recurring issues have prompted scrutiny regarding the bridge's overall structural integrity.
