Rameswaram Reels Under Cyclone Ditwah Floods

Rameswaram and its neighboring districts have been severely impacted by continuous heavy rainfall stemming from Cyclone Ditwah. This resulted in widespread water stagnation, with rainwater inundating residential areas and even entering homes, causing significant hardship for the local population. Hundreds of houses in various neighborhoods were affected, compelling residents to move to relief camps.

The stagnation of water mixed with sewage has heightened concerns about the potential spread of infectious diseases. Residents expressed distress over the constant threat of venomous creatures entering their homes. The disruption has also significantly affected the livelihood of fishermen, who have been unable to go to sea for several days, with some experiencing substantial property damage to their boats and equipment.

Amidst the adverse weather, train services to Rameswaram were temporarily suspended but have since resumed after the rain subsided and wind speeds decreased. Railway officials conducted thorough checks on the Pamban Rail Bridge, including its new high-voltage wires and wind speed measurement devices, before allowing train operations to return to normal.
