Heavy overnight rainfall caused significant waterlogging across Ramanathapuram, prompting Environment Minister V. K. Rajeev to inspect the affected areas on Tuesday. Thiruvadanai recorded the highest rainfall at 80.4 mm in the 24 hours leading up to Tuesday morning, with other areas like Ramanathapuram also receiving substantial amounts.
A tamarind tree was uprooted on the D-Block National Highway. The Minister visited several waterlogged localities, including Bharathi Nagar and Om Shakti Nagar, directing officials to expedite drainage efforts and road repairs. Residents in Om Shakti Nagar highlighted the persistent issue of unpaved roads causing hardship during the monsoon season.
Instructions were issued to clear rainwater and fix potholes in Ramanathapuram town and surrounding areas. The Minister also noted the failure of the existing underground drainage system due to improper pipeline installation, indicating that a new project is being formulated for effective sewage discharge. Sadly, a farmer died after being struck by lightning while working in his field, and his family was provided with ₹4 lakh in relief.
