A raging four-alarm fire tore through a Queens neighborhood on Monday evening, resulting in one confirmed fatality and nine injuries. Tragically, a 17-day-old baby girl remains missing as of Tuesday afternoon.
The fire originated on the first floor of a two-and-a-half-story house around 7 p.m., quickly escalating and spreading to adjacent homes. Firefighters encountered severe conditions, including a localized collapse in the basement, which hampered their search for two individuals initially reported missing.
One missing resident, a 34-year-old woman, was found deceased in the basement. Search efforts for the infant were also severely restricted by debris and water. Among the injured were seven civilians and two firefighters with minor injuries.
