Python Surprise: Woman Wakes to Snake on Bed

A Queensland woman's sleep was dramatically interrupted by an unexpected visitor: a 2.5-meter carpet python found coiled on her bed. Rachel Bloor initially felt a heavy weight on her and assumed it was her dog, but discovered the large reptile when she moved her arm. The snake had apparently entered her second-story bedroom via the plantation shutters of her window.

She awoke her husband, who confirmed the presence of the python. Prioritizing her pets' safety, Ms. Bloor ensured her dogs were removed from the room. Then, maintaining remarkable composure, she slowly crawled out from under the covers. She proceeded to carefully guide the non-venomous constrictor out of the window herself, avoiding the need to call for professional snake catchers.

Snake catcher Kurt Whyte noted an increase in snake sightings due to the end of breeding season and hatching eggs, exacerbated by hot weather and expanding housing developments encroaching on natural habitats. He pointed out that gaps in structures like garage doors often serve as entry points for snakes seeking shelter and new territories, leading to more frequent encounters in residential areas.
