Pune Residents Demand Permanent Traffic Solution After Roundabout Removal

In October 2025, two months after a temporary roundabout of bollards was removed at Raheja Vista chowk on NIBM Annexe Road in Pune, the local residents are still waiting for a permanent fix to the area's ongoing traffic issues.

The temporary roundabout was initially created without any consultation with the traffic police, leading to a protest by citizens in August. Following this, the bollards were removed. After discussions with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), a smaller roundabout of bollards was then set up on a trial basis to determine the proper size for all vehicles to pass through easily.

The Kondhwa traffic police inspector, Maruti Patil, stated that they had informed the PMC about the details, requesting a roundabout with an 18-meter diameter. However, the earlier plan was for a 24-meter roundabout, which has now been reduced in size.

Surprisingly, PMC officials claim the plan is not yet finalized, stating that the police's proposal is part of an ongoing trial, and the authorities will need to verify it with the police. The PMC says they plan to build a roundabout after studying the traffic patterns, as the area is rapidly expanding with many new housing societies under construction.

Frustrated by the lack of progress, local residents like Jaymala Dhankikar and Sujata K. have expressed concerns about the increasing traffic and the need for a permanent solution. They plan to write to the Chief Minister, having approached both the Pune traffic police and the PMC multiple times without any concrete action.
