In a tragic incident, Pravesh Agrawal, a prominent Congress leader and owner of a Mahindra showroom in Indore's Lasudia area, passed away on October 21st, 2025, due to asphyxiation after a massive fire broke out in his penthouse. Agrawal's wife, Shweta, and their younger daughter were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The fire started around 5 am when the family, including Agrawal, his wife, and their two daughters, were asleep. Preliminary investigations suggest the blaze may have originated in the temple area of the house, where an 'akhand jyot' had been burning. The flames are believed to have spread from the temple to an adjoining storeroom.
Shweta and her younger daughter managed to escape the fire and alerted the security guard downstairs. Fire and police teams soon arrived at the scene and rescued Agrawal and his elder daughter, Saumya, who were found unconscious due to smoke inhalation. Despite receiving CPR and being rushed to a nearby hospital, Pravesh could not be saved. The bedroom and furniture were completely destroyed in the blaze.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the political circles in Indore and Dewas, where Agrawal was regarded as a rising and influential leader within the Congress party. A forensic team has been called in to ascertain the exact cause of the fire, and the police have begun investigating the matter, examining electrical circuits and materials from the site.
