On Saturday evening, July 4, a crash in Austin, Minnesota, resulted in injuries to a pregnant passenger. Austin police responded to the scene near the Skate Park where a black Toyota Camry was found smashed into a tree, with a downed light pole and tire tracks indicating the vehicle's path.
Witnesses reported the Camry was traveling at approximately 80 mph before it mounted a curb, struck a light pole, and ultimately lost a tire before colliding with the tree. The driver, 20-year-old Gilberto Ortiz Barrios, was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and registering above the legal alcohol limit.
Barrios allegedly told authorities he had consumed two drinks prior to picking up the passenger, who was about four months pregnant. The woman reported experiencing chest and abdominal pain and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Barrios is scheduled for a court appearance on July 6.
