Ganga Bridge Gridlock: Truck Breakdown Halts Traffic for Hours
25 Sep
Summary
- A truck breakdown on Phaphamau Ganga Bridge caused a five-hour traffic jam.
- Thousands of commuters, including office-goers, were trapped during the delay.
- Police used a Hydra crane to remove the stranded truck and clear the route.
On Friday, a severe traffic jam lasting over five hours paralyzed the Phaphamau Ganga Bridge in Prayagraj. A truck carrying crushed stone broke down in the middle of the bridge, halting traffic on the busy Prayagraj-Lucknow highway. Thousands of commuters, including many on their way to work, were stranded due to the incident.
Traffic police and local police from Phaphamau and Shivkuti rushed to the scene to manage the situation. A Hydra crane was brought in to remove the stalled truck. Due to the bridge's critical role connecting the city to trans-Ganga areas and major routes like Prayagraj-Lucknow-Pratapgarh and Ayodhya, the breakdown caused extensive snarls. Authorities had to divert traffic from the city towards trans-Ganga areas via the Andhawa crossing to alleviate the congestion.
