Prayagraj is enhancing its flood control and relief operations in anticipation of the rising Ganga and Yamuna rivers. The district administration has announced comprehensive preparations, including the establishment of 98 flood relief posts across six tehsils vulnerable during the monsoon season.
Logistical arrangements for shelter houses and flood relief camps are being tendered, with duties for SDRF and PAC teams to be assigned as needed. This year, 1,500 trained 'Apda Mitra' volunteers, including NCC cadets and NSS volunteers, will be deployed to assist in relief and rescue efforts. These volunteers are selected under the directives of the Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority.
District officials stated that flood relief posts will be activated promptly, and affected individuals will be provided with all necessary facilities in shelter houses. Arrangements for sanitation, drinking water, medicines, and food will be ensured at these posts. A key focus this year includes special mapping of elderly, pregnant, disabled individuals, and young children in flood-prone zones for prioritized rapid relief.
