Summary
- Pilots' federation requests formal consideration of its submissions on the AI 171 crash.
- The investigation into the June 2025 crash is nearing completion but awaits reviews.
- Federation seeks to be an independent technical participant in the draft report review.
The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has formally requested that its technical submissions be considered by the civil aviation ministry concerning the ongoing investigation into the AI 171 plane crash. This incident occurred in June 2025, and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) investigation is reportedly in its advanced stages.
FIP seeks nomination as an independent technical participant in the review of the draft investigation report for the AI 171 accident. This follows reliable information that the government may direct the draft report to be examined by an independent committee before finalization.
The AI 171 crash involved an Air India Boeing 787-8 en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick on June 12, 2025. The accident resulted in the deaths of 241 people onboard and 19 on the ground, with one passenger surviving. The FIP has previously urged the AAIB to evaluate the aircraft's electrical system evidence.
The AAIB stated in June 2025 that significant progress had been made and the final report would be released after all investigative activities and required international reviews. The investigation has covered technical, operational, organizational, and human factors.
