Police were initially alerted on Friday, March 13, when the helicopter, which had departed the Gold Coast earlier that day, failed to reach its intended destination in Mudgee.
The wreckage of the Robinson R44 helicopter was located by authorities on Saturday afternoon. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has commenced an investigation into the incident. It is believed the pilot was the only person on board the aircraft at the time of the crash. Formal identification of the pilot is pending.
