A pilot has died following a critical injury sustained in a helicopter crash in western Queensland. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene off Tumbar Road, near Blackall, on Monday morning. The pilot was promptly transported to a local hospital but tragically succumbed to their injuries later that afternoon, as confirmed by Queensland Police.
The incident involved a Robinson R22 helicopter that was reportedly seen descending rapidly before hitting the ground at Pretty Plains Station. Authorities have confirmed that the 42-year-old pilot was the only person aboard the aircraft at the time of the crash.
Workplace Health and Safety, Queensland Police, and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) have launched a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Specialist investigators from Brisbane will assist with aircraft examination and site mapping, with further analysis planned at the ATSB's technical facilities in Canberra. Witness interviews are also a key part of the ongoing investigation.
