Philippines Floods: 15 Dead in Deadly Landslides

Devastating floods and landslides, fueled by nine days of continuous rain, have claimed at least 15 lives in the Philippines. Baguio City, a mountain city north of Manila, recorded an extraordinary amount of rainfall, exceeding London's annual average in just over a week. This extreme weather event, intensified by monsoon winds and tropical cyclones, has impacted over 1.3 million people across ten regions.

Thousands have been displaced, seeking refuge in government-provided shelters. Tragically, a landslide in Baguio on Sunday evening buried three houses, resulting in ten fatalities, including children. Other areas also reported fatalities from landslides and related incidents, such as drowning and electrocutions. The government has initiated response measures, including advising work-from-home arrangements and remote learning to mitigate further risks.
