Peak District Ice Snares Two: Rescues for Fractured Neck & Leg
7 Jan
Summary
- Mountain rescue team assisted a person with a suspected fractured neck after an icy slip.
- Another walker sustained a fractured left leg from an ice-related fall nearby.
- Both individuals received immediate medical attention and were transported to hospital.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team members were deployed to the Peak District on Tuesday night to respond to two challenging rescues caused by icy conditions. In Fairfield, 14 volunteers assisted a person who had slipped and sustained a suspected fractured neck. The casualty was treated for pain relief and mild hypothermia before being carefully transported to the hospital via ambulance.
Earlier that day, the team had already been called to a separate incident above Derbyshire Bridge. Here, a walker had fallen on ice, resulting in a fractured left leg. Rescuers splinted the injury and administered pain relief before carefully moving the individual along snowbound roads to meet an ambulance.
