Paralysed campaigner Claire Lomas died five weeks after a microlight crash in Jordan while filming for an Apple TV series. The 44-year-old, paralysed from the chest down since a horse-riding accident, was piloting a specially adapted aircraft for a program on Apple's VR headset when it veered off the runway on July 15, 2026.
Lomas suffered severe traumatic injuries and remained hospitalized until her death on August 22, 2026. She had become a motivational speaker, qualified pilot, and MBE recipient after her 2008 accident. The production company described the filming as controlled risk, with participants chosen for their athletic pursuits.
An inquest heard that Lomas had obtained a microlight pilot license years prior. While a smaller camera was recommended, its weight did not exceed the aircraft's take-off limit. The wind conditions on the day of the crash were described as light and normal. Lomas had been flying for approximately 15 minutes before the landing attempt that led to the accident.
