Pennsylvania American Water has issued a boil water advisory affecting approximately 95,000 customers across Allegheny and Washington counties. The advisory was enacted following a power surge early Saturday morning that depleted storage at a tank near the Elrama Water Treatment Plant.
This incident resulted in a loss of positive pressure within the distribution system. Pennsylvania American Water states this condition could allow contaminants to enter the water supply. Residents are strongly advised to boil water for at least one minute and then cool it before consumption.
Impacted communities include Bethel Park, Clairton, and Upper Saint Clair in Allegheny County, and Canonsburg, Cecil Township, and Peters Township in Washington County, among others. The company will notify customers once corrective actions are complete and the advisory is lifted.
