12 Mar
Summary
- A dangerous tornado warning was issued for central Pennsylvania.
- Over 23,000 people were ordered to seek immediate shelter.
- Millions remain under tornado watches across multiple states.

A fast-moving storm system generated a tornado warning for south-central and central Pennsylvania on Wednesday afternoon. Forecasters described the storm as "dangerous," prompting immediate shelter orders for over 23,000 individuals. The National Weather Service issued the alert, which was in effect until 4:15 p.m. local time, after detecting rotation within the storm system moving east at 60 mph.
This severe weather event occurred as millions in several other states were already under tornado watches. An overnight outbreak had previously resulted in at least two fatalities and widespread home destruction in Illinois and Indiana. Meteorologists cautioned that further assessments might reveal a higher toll from the severe weather outbreak.
AccuWeather reported large hail impacting Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Illinois, and Iowa, with grapefruit-sized hailstones reported in some areas. Powerful winds also caused damage to homes and vehicles across nine states. Residents were urged to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorm warnings remained active for hundreds of thousands.
