The Odisha Fire and Emergency Service (OFES) is bolstering its disaster response capabilities by introducing a specialized hazardous material (Hazmat) vehicle. This advanced unit is set to handle chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) emergencies across the state.
Director-General Sudhansu Sarangi highlighted the Hazmat vehicle as a crucial force multiplier, equipped with sensors for detecting various threats. The vehicle can also assess accidental or deliberate releases of hazardous substances, aiding responders in quickly evaluating danger scales. Inspector-General Uma Shankar Dash noted its ability to reach leak sources in difficult areas, improving operational efficiency.
