Two individuals from Mexico tragically lost their lives in an early morning vehicle collision on May 23. The crash occurred around 5 a.m. at the intersection of West 16th Street and Tripp Avenue.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Volkswagen Polo traveling west on 16th Street was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling south on Tripp. The driver of the Silverado allegedly failed to stop at the intersection. Both vehicles subsequently collided with a fence and a utility phone box.
Oscar Hernandez, 39, and Victoria Rosales, 18, were passengers in the Volkswagen. Both were wearing seat belts but were pronounced dead at the scene. The 22-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, an Odessa resident, sustained minor injuries and was also wearing a seat belt. The crash remains under investigation, with authorities awaiting blood toxicology results to guide potential criminal charges.
