1 Jul
Summary
- A 25-year-old man was rescued from a trench collapse on July 1.
- This incident marks the second trench rescue in Oakland County in two days.
- Both victims sustained injuries but were in stable condition post-rescue.

A construction worker was rescued on July 1 in Orion Township, Oakland County, after a trench collapse. The 25-year-old man was digging a sanitary sewer when the ground gave way, trapping him below the waist. Emergency responders and his colleagues successfully freed him. He was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital for treatment of injuries to both lower extremities and is in stable condition. This is the second trench collapse rescue in the county within a 24-hour period, with the first occurring on June 30. In that incident, a 35-year-old man was buried when a trench collapsed during septic system installation in Oxford Township. Quick action by coworkers and a sheriff's deputy cleared his head and neck area before firefighters completed the rescue. That worker also sustained stable condition and is expected to recover fully. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) is investigating both incidents.
