LaGuardia reported 110 delays and 339 cancellations, JFK saw 113 delays and 408 cancellations, and Newark experienced 130 delays and 169 cancellations. Departure delays at Newark averaged up to 69 minutes, while arrival delays reached about 78 minutes.
The disruptions were attributed to a combination of weather and operational factors. The FAA had previously ordered ground restrictions the day before due to staffing issues at the New York air traffic control center. The arrival of heavy rain, with potential for over 2 inches per hour in some areas, added to the complexity, leading to a flood watch in effect for much of the tri-state area through Wednesday night.
